Rutgers University Cooper Street Gateway Renovations
The Cooper Street Gateway project will revitalize 14 vacant historic properties and several vacant lots along the 400 block of Cooper and Lawrence Streets, transforming them into a vibrant new facility. While the university is eager to begin construction, ensuring the preservation of the historic buildings and any potential artifacts uncovered during the process remains a top priority.
The scope of the project includes the partial demolition of existing structures and the merging of seven standalone buildings into a unified facility. The three-story building will feature a historic renovation, including a restored façade and roof replacement, as well as the interior fit-out of administrative office spaces. The new addition will create a landmark gateway to the campus while respecting the historical context within the Cooper Street Historic District.
