University of Pennsylvania – Lauder College House

Project Description

Lauder College House is a 350-bed college house at the University of Pennsylvania, and when constructed, it was the first new student residence in over 40 years. Located on the block bounded by Chestnut and Walnut Streets, and 33rd and 34th Streets, the building forms a new gateway on the eastern edge of campus and embraces public and private outdoor spaces while maintaining secure access for residents. In addition to student residences, Lauder College House also includes apartments for faculty, staff, and graduate students, arranged around light-filled, double-height common areas, social and academic spaces, accessory dining for students, and other common and support spaces. Exterior work on the walkways and landscape surrounding the site included significant new hardscaping and landscaping, with a public green space that hugs the building on the south side. Strategies for occupant well-being, energy efficiency, and stormwater mitigation helped the project achieve LEED Gold certification.
