KIPP Cooper Norcross Academy – Hatch Middle School
The KIPP Hatch Middle School project was a complete renovation of a 1920s building with a three-story 1980s addition. The school, part of the KIPP Cooper Norcross family of public charter schools, serves students from educationally underserved communities, and the new location helped accommodate their growing student body.
The 130,000 SF project maintained the original exterior character of the building and introduced new basketball courts, a new kitchen with upgraded serving equipment, and a new auditorium featuring integrated stage lighting and state-of-the-art A/V systems. The 1980s addition received a new CFMF roof truss system with new sheathing and roofing. The entire building received new finishes throughout, including flooring, ceilings, lighting, and doors. A new mechanical system included VRF (variable refrigerant flow) for primary conditions and ERUs (energy recovery units) for fresh air and energy recovery.
