Holy Family Home

Project Description

The Holy Family Home campus, located in the Kingsessing neighborhood of Philadelphia, is a retirement home and convent that provides two types of living arrangements for low-income seniors — skilled nursing and independent living. By adding a new facility, renovating parts of the existing buildings, and demolishing the rest, the Sisters hope to meet the needs of an aging population.

Phase 1

The first phase of the project was the construction of a new healthcare center/convent. The building has a steel and cold-formed metal frame structure with a brick and EIFS façade. The campus, including the existing adjacent buildings, was fully occupied during construction.

Phase 2

The second phase included significant demolition of the existing 5-story building with substantial interior and exterior renovations. The stripped building received a new exterior façade, roof, MEP systems, a commercial kitchen, and a new building entrance. The chapel was renovated and extensive site work included an upgraded parking lot, a new rain garden, a security gate, and landscaping throughout.

Phase 3

The third phase of the project included the complete demolition of all remaining existing facilities and the addition of a new parking garage. Additional site work included an outdoor gathering space and extra parking areas.
