3737 Science Center

Project Description

Based in West Philadelphia, the University City Science Center is a community of partners committed to technology-based economic development in the greater Philadelphia region. This development by Wexford Science + Technology is a 13-story Class A mixed-use laboratory and office building located at 3737 Market Street.

The building has a steel frame and composite metal deck structural system. The exterior wall is a combination of insulated glass panels with crystal grey tinting in an aluminum-framed curtain wall with spandrel panels. The ground floor has granite stone veneer in keeping with surrounding buildings. In addition to the base building, INTECH worked with Penn Medicine University City to fit out approximately 200,000 square feet of space, accommodating a community health facility, an outpatient physical therapy practice, exam rooms, and offices. We also completed a 20,400-square-foot space for the Biedermann Biomechanical Research Laboratory. The building was the first approved clinical facility in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to utilize active chilled beam technology with enthalpy heat wheel recovery. The application of this system has significantly enhanced flexibility and reduced energy demand by as much as 30 percent. The technology has also increased patient comfort and provided a quieter environment.
